“My electrics keep tripping what should I do ?”
In the event of a problem with your electrics, AKM will find and fix the fault with minimal fuss for you. We work with some of the major insurance companies so are experienced and efficient in fault finding.

“Small electrical job needs doing”
No electrical job is too small at AKM. We are happy to replace that broken switch, install an extra socket, fit that new light fitting or connect a new cooker or any domestic electrical job big or small that needs doing. All works carried out by us will meet the current safety standards and Part P of the building regulations.

“Do I need a rewire ?”
You might need a rewire if one or more of the following applies:
- If the property was built in the 1930s, 40s or 50s and no work or only very minor work has been carried out on the electrics since it was built
- If there is braided cable or rubberised cable at the fuseboard or any where in the property
- If it has been highlighted as a result of a installation Condition Report
- If additional socket points or lights are required
- If electrical works at the property have been carried out by Mr “Cowboy electrician “, Mr ” Cheap electrician not from around here ” or Mr “DIY” or any of their relatives who have limited knowledge ,use the wrong size cables and not carried out the installation to current regulations , and issued no certificate for Part P Works.
- If it has been recommended / observations made when other works have been carried out .
“Do I need a full rewire?”
You might not need a full rewire and an Electrical Installation Condition Report will highlight what needs to be done to the domestic electrics in order for your property to comply with the latest wiring regulations
“What is involved in a rewire?”
A rewire involves a lot of upheaval and dust and takes on average a couple of weeks. Cables need to be run from the fuse board to every lighting point and every socket point required in every room of the house . In order to do this the furniture has to be moved, the carpets and floorboards lifted and the walls chased. Where there are chases the walls will have to be re plastered and redecorated after the rewire has been complete but don’t worry we can arrange these trades for you as well.
The ideal time for a rewire is when the property is vacant. Rewires can be done when the property is occupied but be prepared for all the dust that lingers in the air as a result of the building works, and that you will be living in a building site with not all the electrics working whilst the rewire is carried out and dust settling several weeks later.
“What is surface trunking?”
An alternative solution to chasing walls is to use surface trunking. As the name suggest the cables are run on the surface of the walls in trunking and there is no chasing. This is not visually pleasing to some but is a cheaper solution. The surface trunking can be painted over in the colours of the room to blend in or can be brought in other colours other than white.

“Electric shower not working“
We can supply and fit a new shower or our electrician can replace or repair a broken shower. Often the electrician will be able to do the plumbing for you, but if not he will be able to provide details for a plumber that should be able to do the job for you.
